You need to understand that some lubricants can make it almost impossible to give a proper massage. The texture of the oil is important. You need to know that essential oils can never be used on their own. They will just burn the skin. And you need to know how much oil to use. If you are using too much oil (with the exception of massage techniques like Ayurvedic massage) you will not be able to lift the muscle during petrissage and if you are using not enough then you might irritate the skin of the recipient.
TIP: Use less oil first and see how you are doing. You can always add some. Use the least amount of oil that you and your recipient will feel comfortable with. You will also notice that the more you practice your massage techniques the less oil you will have to use. Why less oil - you get a better feel of the muscles.
