Connective Tissue Massage Video
Connective Tissue Therapy (CTT), Connective Tissue Massage (CTM), Deep Connective Tissue Massage, Bindegewebsmassage, was developed by Elizabeth Dicke in Germany in 1929. If you want to acquire a license for massage therapy in Europe, CTT is usually on your curriculum.
Connective Tissue massage is well known throughout the world but the term is less known in the US, where connective tissue techniques are usually connected to Ida Rolf's Rolfing techniques.
Probably the most notable publication was "Massage of Reflex Zones in the Connective Tissue in the Presence of Rheumatic and Internal Diseases", which Dicke wrote together Kohlrausch, Leube and Mac Kenzie in 1942. Some might know J. MacKenzie who researched changes in muscle tones in relationships to organs.
Here is the video, unfortunately I couldn't embed it on the blog (Opens in a new window)
I learned this technique almost 20 years ago. It is very effective in post op rehab, rehab after trauma and chronic postural trauma. The technique shown with straight fingers is common, but I don't like the chronic pressure on the finger joints so I usually use a technique more common in Rolfing with bent fingers.
