Massage and Alcoholism

I've already shown in previous posts how important massage is in holistic treatments of psychological problems like anxiety and depression.

In this post I wanted to talk a little bit about the great impact that massage and other manual therapies have in the treatment of addiction.

I just recently came across an Alcohol Rehab program in California, that explains very straight forward why massage is so important in connection with Alcohol Rehabilitation:

Massage helps to alleviate stress that comes with addiction and with recovery alike. Addiction often leaves the body damaged and it's strength to rejuvenate. Massage will help to encourage the body to regain vitality again.

Massage has such an enormous impact on the detox process in the Alcohol Rehab, because it increases the circulation within the body and helps to eliminate toxins.

The liver which is greatly impacted by addiction is usually congested with toxins, which leads to all kinds of other health conditions, like hypertension etc..

Of course massage is just one aspect of Rehabilitation, and residential facilities who also offer exercise programs, proper diet, behavioral modification therapy and other program aspects will lead to more success, because they try to simultaneously approach the problem from many different angles.
