Neck Massage Video Clips

Neck massage is what will really show if you are a good massage therapist. Not so much what kind of techniques you use, but how you apply those techniques.

First of all always remember that unless there is a specific reason for a specific massage technique to be applied one-sided, neck massage techniques should always be applied bilateral (on both sides at the same time). The reason for this is that the neck is very sensitive to pressure from the side and you might hurt more than you help.

A lot of people are complaining about neck problems due to work places that are not sup up ergonomically and of course a sedentary lifestyle (which means "couch potato"). Chiropractors have cashed in on this problem big time, but in my experience there is a lot of practitioners who just adjust your neck to give you a nice crack.

In many cases neck pain does not necessarily come from the neck itself, but bad posture and other factor play an important role in neck conditions. Rolfing shows a very interesting connection of the feet and the neck, some other therapies show a close relation ship of the sacro-iliac area and the neck, the most obvious connection though is between the neck and the shoulders. I even see head-neck and shoulders including the face and jaw as one area.

Even though you can separate techniques for a shoulder massage, head massage, neck massage, face massage and jaw massage, you should always see their close relationship to each other.

So what does that mean for the practice? Well it means that if somebody is complaining about neck problems, don't necessarily look there first.

I have my own way of seeing problems in the body and if I see a client for the first time, no matter what they have, I first suggest a full body massage. Oftentimes symptoms disappear after a few treatments even without specifically addressing the problem area or performing a neck massage.
